Guilin, China is by far one the most stunning places I have ever seen! I still remember looking over and seeing it for the first time. It was morning. Fog sunk into the mountains just enough to show the top of them peeking over at us as we rolled up in an old, rickety bus. I felt like I was on a boat, pulling up to skull island off King Kong. Chills ran down my back at the sight. I had never seen such a mysterious and beautiful place in my life.
It’s nestled within a secluded world of majestic mountains. Coupled with the kindest people and ample things to do, it is a place I can’t wait to get back to!
From then on, we had adventure after adventure. We rented vespas and explored the city and it’s surrounding areas. It was incredible. We went through mountains and farmlands. Yaks being the majority of our company.
Caving being one of my favorite things to do, I had to see the mud caves. We went and were not disappointed. It was such a fun experience and I’m so glad we didn’t miss it!
There are SO many amazing things to do in this magical place, you could visit many times and never get bored!
We had the privilege of visiting the Huangluo Yao Village, where we met some of the Yao women and girls.
The picture below is some of the Longsheng Rice Terraces. We hiked up, what seemed like the stairway to heaven, to get to the top and see this magnificent view. As we climbed and joked about our achy legs and how we felt like we were going to die, we would look over and see the locals carrying huge loads — the weight equal to them — pass us. It was very humbling, to say the least.
The last thing we did was the bamboo raft. What an unforgettable experience! I will never forget the gorgeous and stunning landscape we floated by, weaving in and out of these mountains. I can’t wait to travel back here with my husband some day. If you have a chance to experience this mysterious and magical piece of earth, I suggest you do! You will not be disappointed!
