Puerto Rico was incredible.  If you’ve never been and you are looking for lots of adventure, beautiful cities, historic landmarks and amazing views, this is a place you should visit.

We arrived in San Juan in May — a beautiful and perfect time to go.  We stayed in the cutest condo right next to the Marriott, in oceanfront properties.  We were there with two of our friends and the location could not have been more perfect.  We were within walking distance to anything and everything we would need and our most favorite restaurant just happened to be right down the street.

We rented a car and were able to drive around the whole island.  It’s a beautiful place.  We visited Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a 16th century fort built by the order of King Charles V, to protect the entrance to San Juan Bay circa 1540.

We then strolled around the historic streets of Old San Juan.  The colorful buildings, music, and food made for an incredible experience.  What a romantic place.

We took a day trip around the island and visited the Camuy River cave park.  There’s always been something about caves that make me so happy.  I’ve had the opportunity to visit caves in many different countries and I love every one.  They were truly magnificent in Puerto Rico.

One thing I could’t wait to get back and see was the El Yunque Rainforest.  The sheer beauty and magnitude of this place is breathtaking.  It rained the first time I was there and I hoped for the same weather the next time we went.  It was perfect. The moment we got there it started pouring.  We ran and danced through the paths soaking wet, coming up on a beautiful stair-like waterfall that fell as far as you could see.

After that we drove over to Fajardo.  We took a night kayaking trip to see the bioluminescent bay, that sadly I did not get pictured.  If you have the chance to see this magical effect you should.  Nothing is quite like it.

Lastly, we took a ferry to one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen.  Culebra is a small island about 17 miles east of the Puerto Rican mainland.  It is stunning!  The pictures do not do it justice.  Here we swam and lounged on the beach, hiked, and had yummy food from the locals.

I can not say it enough.  This island is one of my favorite go-to’s that I tell everyone about.  It’s affordable, close, beautiful, and has so much to offer.
